Dog Show Titles / Acronyms

Understanding Division A vs. B

Division A:

  • Dog must never have acquired any AKC title in that event.
  • Handler must be the owner, co-owner, or a member of the owner’s household, who has never put an AKC title on any dog in that event.
  • (This is regardless of another co-owner's AKC event accomplishments.)
  • Dogs eligible for Novice A may be entered in the Novice B class at the discretion of the owner.

Division B:

  • Any dog that has acquired any Novice title in that AKC event.
  • Handler has handled a dog to any AKC title in that event.
  • Handler is someone other than the owner, co-owner, or household member.

Licensed Event vs. Sanctioned Event

Licensed Event:

Sanctioned Event

  • Dog must be 15 months of age
  • Must be AKC Registered or have AKC Limited Registration, Indefinite Listing Privilege (ILP), or approved Foundation Stock Service

AKC Titles

AGILITY

AKC agility offers owners the opportunity to demonstrate their dog’s physical abilities and willingness to work with their handler through a variety of obstacles and tasks. Agility events progress in complexity requiring a refinement and improvement of training and interaction between dog and handler.

Participation in Agility is beneficial for many reasons. It develops a more rounded and conditioned dog, provides a good source of basic training for search and rescue dogs, demonstrates good training and citizenship and is a great source of entertainment for the owner, handler, onlookers, and most of all, the dog.

As with any event, good sportsmanship is a necessity when working with a dog and fellow competitors during training and as a participant in Agility events.
